I consider myself Liberal....And I most definitely want us to succeed in Iraq.
No I dont support the war, I never have. However I served over there and because I didnt agree I decided not to re-enlist.
However regardless of how I feel about our decision to go there, I most definitely want what we are doing to succeed. I dont like Bush, but I would love it if the guy were made out to look like a friggin genius in the end.
I would rather my country succeed and for Iraq to be a free and peaceful nation than to be proven right. I would rather take a hit to my ego and be proven wrong.
As far as actual wars go our troops have been PHENOMENAL over there. This war has gone on far too long, however that is the politicians faults. However in terms of military proficiency and what we have been able to do, our military has done a fantastic job. We struggled for a short while trying to learn how to counter the insurgency and their cowardly tactics, but once we adapted and improvised and gained experience they have been on the run ever since then.
From a political stand point, McCain DOES deserve credit because the surge idea was in large part his and he was right a LONG time ago.
But dont just assume that everyone who is Liberal is rooting for us to fail. Sure there are some liberals out there who are so far to the left that they are insane, and they are rooting for us to fail, just because they are bitter about Bush winning in 2000 and 2004. However im pretty dang far to the left on social issues and the LAST thing I want is for us to fail. I want us to succeed as quickly as possible and for our HEROES over there to get home safely so they can be with their families.
There is a difference between not agreeing with our policy and rooting for us to fail. Try not to confuse the two.
