Well, you're right, the Union Jack is the British flag. So that's why it's only in the corner of ours - it's not our whole flag. Our whole flag IS representative of us, not Britain - it has our beautiful Southern Cross on a night sky, with the Union Jack in the corner to illustrate our heritage. A nice mix, I think.

The US flag has the same thing - the stars part represents the original 13 colonies and therefore illustrates their heritage. In fact, on its own, the blue field of stars is a maritime flag known as a Union Jack. It's nice.

To let go of the Union Jack on our flag wouldn't be that big a deal, but I do feel that it would deny our ancestry, which would be a shame.
