Here's how it works: If one of your friends says something stupid or is actually an "ist" of some sort that will somehow be pinned on you, regardless of anything you may say to the contrary. Or, if you are pro-choice, but your wife is pro-life, you will then be labeled as closet pro-life because we all know that spouses agree 100% of the time. Your words? Don't matter. Your actions? Don't matter. Your stated positions on the issues? Don't matter. What matters are the positions of people that aren't you.
