The ability to make some change... maybe. But mostly pure pride.
That's really it. It seems vague. But who doesn't want to go down in history (well sure many of us don't... but I assume those who run do)? There are plenty of things you can do that give you power, some arguably more than the presidency.
But only the presidency gives you that always remembered place in history... Even unsubstantial presidents are remembered to some extent.
And I imagine most people who run assume they will be great (except the Eisenhower type who's just kind of forced)
