Well if not the draft then something needs to be done to entice more people to join the Military. At the rate we're going we'll be completely defenseless in a couple hundred years. Then what do we do when there are Barbarians at the gate? This country is shooting itself in the foot, over and over again. And you know what, maybe what you do is have a Draft, but the Combat parts are completely optional (this way you can't say that I'm forcing you to die for the country). Truth is the Military needs just as many people in Support positions, as they do in Combat positions.
And if you don't want to join the Military at all, even in a non combat position, NO PROBLEM, you don't have to go, you will be issued a green card and you are now a second class citizen of the U.S. with no voting rights, and only the same rights afforded to Legal Residences of the U.S.A. You can still live here, and make a life here, but without service, you don't get to become a 'real' citizen with Voting privileges, and Top Secret Clearances for FBI positions, top government jobs and such.
Too many people take citizenship in this country for granted, they want to just take, take and take, but give nothing back in return.
