California could on the basis that it wants to pursue a greater degree of dictatorial, socialist government that would be incompatible with our constitution and would represent a form of government alien to that which the government was founded on. They could also be taken over by 20 million illegal immigrants from Mexico. Or they could decide that they want no part of Bush's imperialistic tyrannical government. Plenty of other places in the US have an ethnic majority that is non-white and is not a melting pot. It doesn't even have to be an entire state, it could be a much smaller region.
