For one of those rare moments of my life, I agree with Time 100%. This cyclone could escalate to the hundreds of thousands dead after the humanitarian crisis in Somalia in the early 90s, and similarly, we need to response with UN military action. Obviously, Somalia was a failure because after a handful of casualties for a great cause, the American public and Bill Clinton got spooked out of the region. Indeed, the fallout caused the World Trade Center bombings, but under a persistent, if not stubborn, President, I truly believe we can stay in Myanmar until Than Shwe is removed and aid delivered.

My fellow Conservatives, this will require us to swallow our pride and seek European help. We're obviously already stretched to the limit militarily enough to have had snail-paced response to Katrina, and I believe that pleading for Europe's hand in this would do wonder for our credibility across the pond. It really is imperative that we bring aid to the people of Myanmar, and the only way to do that might very well be with UN forces.

I don't know if it will happen, but to really prove that Cons mean to help to the world for just non-US interests, we have to help Myanmar.
