The original intent of Affirmative Action is that it was imposed to assure that the qualified applicant was given fair consideration, regardless of race, creed, color, or gender. It did not develope in a vaccum. It was the direct response to American Aparteid. It was to be done on the "Honor System". But dishonorable and creative opponants, particularly in the southern states but also elsewhere, were basically uncooperative, so do-gooders and well-meaning bureaucrats devised ways to make it manditory. Whenever this happens, someone is going to feel (and actually
be) slighted, resulting in the mess it became.
