Personally, I believe in moderation. This country has been skewed too far right on the spectrum since Reagan.
The imperative has not been a government that functions optimally, but a government that cuts big checks to rich people, with smaller checks down the totem..
We have a trillion dollars worth of infrastructure in this country that is decaying, we have understaffed police and firemen, and underegulated industries in nearly every sector.
We're addicted to oil, and we're not even trying to get off of it.
We're fighting wars, and building nations in places that never attacked us, and posed no imminent threat to us, spending untold hundreds of billions of dollars.
Meanwhile, under the administration's who swore to "shrink government" we've actually expanded government, and spent more money than under those who admit that they want the government to succeed.
And our debt increases every day.
What America needs is a Reagan of the left to balance ourselves.
That's why I support Obama.

Is it simply that he gives a good speech?

No. The best politicians give good speeches, but if you think that's all he's got, apparently you missed the part where he's beaten the clintons; something Republicans haven't done in nearly 30 years.

What has he accomplished that you admire?

His work on ethics reform, and transparency in the senate is admirable.
But, it's his work after law school as a public advocate that is most impressive to me personally.
He graduated from an ivy league law school, and could have gone to work in more selfish pursuits, but instead used his skill to be a voice for people who needed one.
And, it is a credit to more than mere charisma that he went from a lowly advocate of the public, to one good election day away from the oval office in under two decades.
Particuarly after such a base, bombastic character as president, the country needs a leader with strong mental faculties, who understands complexities in a situation, for instance, the difference between shiites and sunnis.

Can you even list any accomplishments?

Could you be more condescending?
What has McCain
accomplished?
Could you list anything he's done in the last 30 years that really matters?
His most important work was in campaign finance laws, laws he now skirts. Some accomplishment...
So, what is it? His gift for being an influence peddler who's campaign is directed by lobbyists? Perhaps it's being such a peddler, while convincing everybody, the media included, that he is somehow above the fray, while he swaps federal land for a campaign donor?
The question of "Why does one support Obama" begs a more important question: who is stupid enough to fall for McCain, after Bush?
