I am a teacher and many schools are discussing/and even implementing divided classrooms with boys in one room and girls in another. Studies show that both sexes learn better when they are not in the same classroom setting. Boys are not trying to impress girls and girls are getting more involved b/c they are not embarrassed about answering in front of boys.
The only argument (right or wrong?) is that if it was unfair to segregate based on race, how is it fair to segregate based on sex? The answer to this that boys and girls still go to the same school, but they are in different classrooms. They still have lunch and passing time to socialize with each other and to learn how to interact with the opposite sex.
Good idea in my opinion but it hasn't gained momentum yet.
