As Juan Hernandez, campaign advisor of McCain, put it refering to legal and illegal immigration; good things cost money. So as long as immigrants continue to contribute to the 'american way of life', they should be rewarded, and their burden subsidized for making your life more comfortable. American people from both the private and public sector have realized this thats why some american banks allow mexicans to open bank bank accounts using mexican id, and american politicans have opted to allow illegal immigrants amnesty, if you will, so they can continue providing the services they do. This arguement is irrelevant in the light of things because as long as so called 'anchor babies' reach 18(voting age), and illegal immigrants strive to become citizens the political clout of immigrants, and thus their staying power, is increased. This would happen even if today we stopped all illegal immigration, its just that illegal immigration makes it a whole lot faster.
