The Jews based their written language on the Phoenicians, whereas Germanic writing was original. Earlier imitation vs. later innovation is an interesting debate, but if we're going to use it as a mark of superiority, what of the New World and African peoples that did neither until someone forced them to? Rancid butter (primitive wax, in function) is no more disgusting a hair-treatment than African dung-smearing, and somewhat less-disgusting, in my biased opinion...

Fermented milk is a popular traditional drink in many Asian cultures that aren't particularly barbaric.
