actually i do
we should mind our own business and leave other nations to resolve their differences. want us to mediate, certainly. want us to underwrite your military operation, no. that goes for saudi arabia just as it does for israel. (and germany, japan, south korea, etc.) admittedly, to do that overnight would create a massive power vacuum, which might be filled by those with whom we disagree, not unlike hamas prevailing in the election against fatah, so we should be deliberate in our retrenchment from acting as an imperialistic power to taking care of ourselves. (do not read this to understand me advocating for isolationism because i don't ... we should remain active in world trade and diplomacy efforts.) our nation's military and our country's credit card have long been over-extended.
being without uncle sugar as a supportive nanny, israel could try to continue to bully its arab neighbors by exploiting the fear of its superior force, but i think that nation's people are too smart to allow that to happen. israel will be forced to co-exist for its OWN purposes. to co-exist means it will have to become reasonable in its dealings with the other tribes of the middle east, including the Palestinians
those tribes have been involved in conflict for almost forever; while having little knowledge of the
Bible, i do seem to recall repeated references to smiting going on by competing forces. that may likely continue, but let it continue without our involvement (excepting our service as mediators if negotiators request that non-military, non-judicial contribution)
while we may not be in a position to fix the problems of others neither will we be found to blame for their warring condition, and importantly, we will stop this massive loss of American soldiers' lives, treasure and international reputation
these are the musings of an older fellow who now has adult children he no longer has to raise but continues to be there to assit if they seek guidance (or a loan). you may see a similarity to that condition and my proposal, offered above. maybe our nation's position in the world has changed relative to the others just as mine has relative to my kids. but that's just me. if i am so smart why am i sitting here typing a post in reply to a person whose avatar is a bird?
