Default Transparency

We hear politicians talking a lot about transparency these days, claiming that our way out of this financial crisis has to be conducted in a transparent manner so that the American taxpayer knows where his/her money is going and how it’s being spent. Sounds good, huh?

But here’s what they, (the Congress), has done so far. They loaded up a bailout bill with pork that goes to “who knows where” and for what. They’ve handed this Secretary Of The Treasury Paulsen a blank check worth 700 billion dollars and over 300 billion before that, that he spreads around every day as he changes his mind where and how to blow the mother load, (he hasn’t a freggin clue), and to get back to the transparency idea, there’s nary a cop on the beat that knows what in hell the Wall Street thieves are using the loot for. Congress hasn’t a clue, if Paulsen knows, he’s not saying and the only thing we know so far is that AIG is using it’s share for lavish parties. Seems that Congress has little to no restrictions on how the money gets used and little to no oversight how it’s actually being used. I reckon this Democrat controlled Congress is just too busy deciding how much bribery loot they want to give the American auto industry to bribe the union vote for the Democrat Party and reload the Democrat campaign coffers.

Seems that government’s Transparency is akin to the Ostrich’s head in the sand tactic. Just throw American tax dollars at every situation, then stick their head up their ass.

Here's the kind of transparency I'd like to see in Washington:
  • Webcams in every office, running 24/7
  • All phone conversations recorded, audio available online no less than 24 hours later
God forbid we're allowed to keep tabs on the people controlling our lives. I'm excluding the White House and the Pentagon though. Military/Homeland Security matters should be confidential.

While the bill did indeed give Paulson a lot of leeway, there are oversight provisions and plenty of reporting on where the money is going. What the recipients do with it will emerge later after they actually do something with it.

Perhaps you should see what you can actually find out before complaining that there's no information out there.
