The country is based on religion. Religion is all around us, but the Founding Fathers didn't want a religious institution running the government. The roots of the country are Christian, but this great nation allows others to come in. I am all about religious tolerance, but I am not going to deny this nation's history in the name of Political Correctness.

In Boise we have a Cross on one of the surrounding foothills. Table Rock Cross

Though they have been attacked by the ACLU, many towns have Crosses in their city crests. An example.

Many government buildings have religious symbols/statues all over them.

Our one dollar bill has "IN GOD WE TRUST". On the back of the dollar bill there is a image of the All-Seeing Eye which many think is exclusively a Masonic symbol, but it has been used as an emblem of God.

Many oaths of office contain "So help me God", whether it is military or government.

One of the most famous documents in history, written by the man who had a hand in our Constitution, had the following words: God, Creator, Divine Providence, and sacred.

Many State Constitutions have some kind of reference towards God. My great State's Preamble says: We, the people of the State of Idaho, grateful to Almighty God for our freedom, to secure its blessings and promote our common welfare do establish this Constitution.
I feel most honored to have inspired a thread.

Religious freedom was a great accomplishment of our founding fathers.

I'm not religious. I am an atheist. I still would defend anyones right to believe whatever it is that they do. The quote used is in reference to the founders seeing to it that the US was not founded on A meaning singular religion and allowed each person to espouse the deity of their shoice without fear. It is possible in America to not believe at all. My thanks goes out to those that believed in religious freedom.
