What are those statements and references saying? They say to me that if it's gay it's bad. It is the negative. Replace the word gay with dumb. I think these shoes are dumb. Gay is a term for what i am society seems to make it acceptable for others to use that term to make a statement for bad or less then good.

I see the word "queer" in much the same way. "We're here, we're queer", etc., in that using a term that is derogatory when applied by others becomes something like a badge when self-applied.
