Labor is by far the single most expensive process in my business. If you wish to increase labor costs, it will definitely have a ripple affect on the consumer price. How much that affect is depends on how much you wish to increase compensation.

Besides that, there is a difference between legal and illegal immigrants. They aren't interchangeable.

There are immigrants here who have become citizens.
There are immigrants here who have work visas but no citizenship.
There are immigrants here with no work visas and no citizenship.

And there are plenty of 'white boys' that take jobs at temp agencies - and they make far less than $12/hr. I've never heard of day workers making $12/hr at any temp agency.

Labor that comes from the local job bank costs $12/hour. No money goes to the job bank--the wages are paid directly to the worker. Other workers not processing through the job bank ask for and usually demand the same $12/hour minimum. If you wish to call me a liar then go ahead, but I'm telling you for the last time; there has never been a White boy at the job bank or working with any private crews--they are nearly 100% Hispanic.

If you don't see 'white boys' at the temp agency it's more likely because of the demographics of your area than the fact that 'white boys' won't work for that little, because there are 'white boys' that work for minimum wage and support themselves.

Other than farm laborers, the area in which I live is 99% White.

We're not talking about herding them together and executing them. I understand the complexities of illegal immigration and that it can't be fixed overnight. But just because there is a system in place that has forced you to depend on illegal immigrants doesn't mean that's the only possible way that could ever work.

I have three choices of who to use for labor and they are listed above. Almost never are there any immigrants who are citizens that are willing to do this work. 99.9% of the time the laborers come from those with work visas and those without work visas. I have no other choices and there ARE NOT enough people to go around so pickins are slim--I have no choice but to use whomever is available on any given day.
These workers have been part of CA and AZ farming for many decades--this is nothing new. Fifty years ago maybe a few White boys might work in the fields, but over time they all feel this type of work is beneath them. Honestly I don't think it makes any difference what the wage is! And these workers we have work non-stop from the time they start until when they quit...except breaks and lunch...no loafing...no crying...no calling in sick...no nothing--just work. Try to get this out of our wonderful White-boys!
If there was a gluttony of workers where I could be choosy and hire only those who are citizens, I would...but unfortunately I don't have this choice...
