It's not the number of people a person knows that makes the difference here, the fact is that national polls show rising unemployment, but the bigger problem is underemployment. There are far more people having trouble making ends meet and seeking assistance like welfare and food stamps than ever before. Add that to the fact that even the national polls are flawed in that after unemployment benefits for a person expire they are no longer counted as unemployed and you'll see that the problem is far bigger than most people realize.
