Short term storage is not a problem, the Navy has de-com'd over 70 subs with nuclear reactors, they cut out the reactor compartments and store them for 50 years and then recycle the metals. They don't stay hot like you may have been told for ten thousand years. Decommissioning is happening around the globe on older reactor designs in favor of newer more powerful and efficient ones.

People need to be educated when it comes to nuclear energy and they are fed fear mongering bullcraap.
