Howard Increases Majority in Australia
the Coalition Liberal-National Party Government of Australian PM John Howard has been returned with an increased majority.
Latest official results are available through the Australian Electoral Commission, and at 9:24:48 PM local time with 62.19% of the votes counted, the Government has a swing of +1.96%.
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation prediction shows a likely increase of 2 seats in the Government majority (previously 8 seats).
This will give the Howard Government an unprecedented 4th consecutive term of office.
UPDATE: The official results now show that the Coalition has definitely got the minimum 76 seats needed for a majority, with 63.81% of the votes counted.
UPDATE: The Opposition Leader, Mark Latham, has just conceded defeat.
