You're absolutely right.
OBL wants to recreate the Caliphate, uniting the entire Islamic world into a united front and reclaiming the historic boundaries of the Caliphate, including Spain, Italy, Turkey, and Eastern Europe.
His reasons are primarily religious...to force Islam upon the world.

By all means, I'm sure that UBL hates Bush and wants to see him toppled. He wants easier game in that office, someone who will let him accomplish his goals without resisting.
