The first time I found out that Americans eat off paper plates with regularity I was stunned beyond words. It's something I cannot fathom. In Australia we eat off paper plates at picnics, and maybe occasionally at a barbeque. That's it.

It still completely spins me out.

Is it really, truly the norm there?
