You are correct, Barn, it is factual that the founding fathers believed that humans weren't given rights by other humans, but were endowed with rights, by their creator. That is a fundamental premise that underlies the declaration of independence and the constitution, as well.

The fact of the matter is that these rights being an innate gift from the creator (a higher authority than mankind) gave the American patriots a justification for seizing their rights from the British. One cannot understand the American revolution without understanding their reasoning.
