Default My point of view

Part of the reason why I don't support abortion is because there are easy alternatives to raising a child. Mostly in the form of giving it up for adoption, which can be psychologically stressful on the mother, but I don't see how dealing with an abortion is any easier. I recognize that some people don't want to/cannot raise a child at the point in their life when they get pregnant, but to me sacrificing 9 months of your life so that someone else can live is not too much to ask.

The big issue is whether abortion is murder. If it's murder it's not right, even if the situation is rape. It's the old "two wrongs don't make a right" idea.

I'm not trying to be insensitive to the rape victim, but lots of terrible crimes have lasting difficult consequences. Pregnancy is one for the rape victim. I'm not sure we're helping the rape victim by helping them abort the child. Many women suffer a lot of mental stress who have had abortions.

If abortion is not murder at some point, like the day after conception, or the first tri-mester (which some people believe) then that changes things.

So is it murder or isn't it? If it isn't, where is the line?

A baby is alive and breathing in a crib. It is murder to kill it.
A baby is alive and breathing in a womb. It is murder to kill it.

There should be no question. I also believe in a pro-choice society. People have the choice to get an abortion. They also have the choice to commit murder. Some people believe it necessary to kill a person. Thus some would consider it necessary to kill an unborn baby. But the point should be that BOTH suffer the consequences of their choices. Thus, you can very well choose to have an abortion, but you should still go to jail for it.

True, I believe that in all likelyhood, abortion will always remain legal in the US. True, if we did make abortion illegal, there would be amazing amounts of repercussions that would take decades to handel and probably millions of dollars to fund. And in the end people would still have abortions.

Now then the reason I keep arguing as I do, is not so much to try and convince you and the rest of the country that we should make it illegal and then watch the resulting chaos that ensues. My point is to make you keep thinking like a human being. To make you veiw it as an issue of life and death. To not allow this horrible thing to be relegated to the back corners of unimportant topics filed under "convienece". Never to be taken seriously. I do not want us to become numb, because that would be the easy thing to do. This is an open gaping wound in the side of america and instead of addressing it, we put a bandaid over it and try not to think about it, slowly letting it go numb as we bleed out. If we allow ourselves to become numb to the slaughter of literally thousands of children a year, then what else will we become numb too. Our society has such a low view of life and such a high view of self. We don't need to make that worse. Do not make this an issue of convienence. Because that's what it boils down to. Truly, if we cared enough, we would come up with some means to deal with this issue aside from murdering our children, but the sad fact is that not enough of us care. We really don't. Maybe you care, and I care and our families care... but america doesn't care. Not really. And if we allow ourselves to think more and more like those people who don't care, then eventually we won't care either. Then we'll say, sure kill the unborn, kill the elderly, kill the handicapped, kill the weak, kill the inconvienent... the grand humanistic plan. Survival of the fitest. Don't go numb. That's all i'm trying to say.

Default Great explanation.

I am a christian. I fall under the "Pro-life" Stereotype category, Correct? Not necessarily.

I would say that I am 95% pro life. However, it is more than just a political issue. It is a moral issue. Saying this makes me a Neocon/conservative/republican, correct? Absolutely not.

I love that the republican party wants to stamp out abortion. However, politically, the democratic party offers more options for a mother who doesn't have a choice.

Picture yourself in the Ghetto. A pregnant mother working 5.15 an hour, Attending school, the father of your baby leaving you. You are not eligible for any support from the government. Sure, you might get a nice tax break for having the child, IF you have the child. What choice do you have? This makes me a Democrat/ Liberal? Absolutely not. I just believe that the government could do more for the mother of this child, if they don't want it aborted. Besides, I put my moral standing above the political standing.

I have strayed completely off topic here. I apologize. I just had to get that out. I absolutely agree with you on your stance. Nicely written.

Default The pro-abortion woman rolls by...

Who's to say that one will be better off after having the child? It's beyond an inconvenience; it could ruin the life of the child and the mother. If denied the right to an abortion (the right over their own body) the mother will have to have the child. That leads to the mother either: not caring for the child, putting the child up for adoption, or keeping the child.
In scenario A the child has a horrible life with a neglectful mother or father. In circumstance B the child is bumped from foster home to foster home, never really getting a mother or father. In situation C the mother keeps the child. This can end up as a good ending; the mother can pull through and provide the child with happiness, or it can end horribly; the financial strain proves too much, ruining both lives.
If one goes to jail for abortion, we just have people crossing the border for abortions again. It didn’t work before, it won’t work the next time.
Condoms can’t stop everything, so let’s say the mother and father were playing it safe, and the mother still became pregnant. The mother has (forgive the analogy) a parasite growing inside her. It can be a health risk, too.
What I’m saying is, abortion is legal because in the end, it’s more than just an inconvenience to be pregnant. True, we can’t scab up over this issue, but there’s a difference between having an abortion at eighteen and killing off any inconveniences.

Default The Issue

The issue is not how you define "life"; but rather how the law defines a "person."
