No one is punishing anyone, the simple fact is you have to take reponsiblity for your actions. If you do not want children don't get pregnant it's that simple.[/quote]
I am going to have an abortion next week. I am 26 y/o and been married 4 years. My pregnancy was the neglect of my doctor. I previously had an IUD which had expired and ended up with an extended wait until my new one could be placed. Since IUDs are now commonly used as emergency contraceptive up to a week following sex where were told we would be safe... WE DID USE CONDOMS anyways... and it failed. My doctor did not do a pregnancy test before replacing it and it turns out I was alredy 5-9 days pregnant upon insertion. My marriage is falling apart and for the baby's sake we have chosen not to bring it into a broken family... Adoption is not an option because of pompus people like yourselfves who would critize me for giving away my baby but more-so that everyone I know that would see me noticibly pregnant doesn't need to know that I my marriage is going through hardship. I wish I could give it up for adoption so it could be raised by someone who could provide a stable home but it would raise too many questions my and my husband's mental health is not ready to deal with on a repetitive daily basis. I would be considered a high risk pregnancy and would be continually have complications due to the IUD lost in my uterus. On top of that... 80% or more of women in my physical situation abort and there is no reliable data on the safety issues involved. Research did show however, that I am at 50X greater risk of maternal death.Do I not have the choice to not put my life at risk??? |

I for one, think anyone who would criticize you for saving a baby's life is hypocritical and doesn't deserve to have any holding over how you think of yourself. The choice is yours, but please just give this option a chance. Quote:

There is no clear right or wrong, but giving this sort of thing more time might help you find your own way. |

I'm currently working in a country where abortion is illegal and it doesn't stop people from getting abortions, they either pay "friendly" doctors large sums of money to do it on the sneak, take the DIY approach, give birth then dump the baby, or often just give birth and subject the child to the kind of life you would expect them to receive from parents incapable and unwilling to raise them.
I'm not a big fan of abortion, not for any religious reasons but I think it is something that plays into the what I call the "disposable lifestyle" people have these days. If you don't like it, get rid of it, same with relationships, and I don't think it's proving a healthy attitude in terms of society. But making abortion illegal is not the answer. Creating a society were it is not frowned upon to give birth and put the child up for adoption would be a good start (plenty of people looking to adopt), making the point to people who aren't very religious that abortion might not be the best thing for them or for society rather than trying to force religious doctrine on people who do not share the same religious beliefs, and of course the usual sex education etc. It's one of these subjects where understandably people have strong beliefs and get very emotional, unfortunately often resulting in the erosion of logic. As is usually the case with this kind of subject, both sides have valid points and it just requires a deep breath and a bit of give an take to reach a solution of peace and relative satisfaction for all sides. In my humble opinion Additionally, I have a 2 year old son and myself and my wife had him after we had been together for 11 months, yes we were that stupid, it was an accident, we really didn't want a child and we were scared. But we both decided we had to try anyway, and now I can promise you I'm very glad we did, he's perfect in every way (I know everyone says that about their children lol). Posted somewhere else but more appropriate here. |

Interesting take on the subject but I view there is a solution. The life-or-death aspect occurs very rarely in pregnancy I do believe that the number in America of such situations are one in every five hundred thousand. (correct me if I am wrong) I believe that in a life or death situation an abortion should be strictly up to the mother whether it is her life or the baby's. On the other hand I think that abortion is unnesessary in any other circumstance. There is always an alternative choice to denying a child life for instance adoption would be fantastic as there are so many who Can't have a child yet they would be excellent parents. Abortion shouldn't be the first thing that women look to during pregnancy. Just imagine how it would be for you if your mother had decided to have an abortion or look how it would be for your partner if their mother had had an abortion. For everyone there is a partner out their but this might be hindered by people who have abortions. (just the view of myself no offense intended) |
