I don't think our country is any better off because of it. Child abuse is at an
all time high. Fatherless children are still on government rolls, only now more so, because there is no social stigma. The rich and educated have the majority of abortions while the poor are still trapped and usually have their children. The age of instant gratification has gotten us nowhere yet the preborn are being denied their fundamental civil rights.
OK, hit me with your best punch!!

Most of what you have described has referred to the newly born and the not-quite-so-newly-born and their "civil rights" being ignored. Denying the "rich and educated" or anyone else the right to abortion will not help those who were not aborted.
Prior to the legalisation of abortion and prior to the current generation, children were treated far worse - social legislation to curtail child abuses of working in sweat shops did not exist until about 100 years ago. Prior to that legislation the preferred way of cleaning chimneys was to stick a small boy up them and girls were used to work in cotton spinning mills because of their small fingers. So do not presume today is worse than yesterday... do some research before making presumptive statements that "The age of instant gratification has gotten us nowhere"
As for the pre-born. Their rights are enshrined within the mothers rights but are, rightly, secondary to the mothers rights.
As the sovereign part of a duality (with the pre-born), it is the mother who has to make the decisions for the duality and if it is her decision to abort then it is her sovereign right which is, legally and rightly, respected.
