Isn't this just a veiled question about whether people feel suicidal? I mean, if a person here were planning too "off" themselves, them it seems like they would answer "yes"; otherwise, "no" will be a popular answer.

I think you should have a moderator delete this thread also, and just ask the question you seem to want to ask: "Do you favor abortion" or "Do you think abortion should be allowed."

This isn't a veiled question at all. That fact is though, only people who are suicidal would wish they were aborted. The good majority of people are happy to be alive; however, with abortion legal for the entire 20th century, less of them would.

And, no, a moderator should not delete this thread simply because you don't like it. This has an incisive purpose- many of those in favor of abortion, I'm sure, are glad that it didn't happen to them.

But if had happened to them they wouldn't know it and therefore wouldn't care. So, no suffering or regret by the abortee.

If a baby were killed just after birth they wouldn't know it...if an adult were killed he wouldn't know what the rest of his life would be like. What's your point?

Let me try to clarify - I was basically getting at the fact that, at least in theory, there would be nothing consciously objectionable about being aborted. And I disagree that to be killed just after birth you wouldn't know it - you would experience death with at least some level of consciousness.

Back to your original question, you're basically asking people to compare existence with non-existence. Personally, having had no subjective experience of non-existence, I cannot say which I'd prefer.

Babies in aborted fetus photos sure seem to be aware of the pain they are experiencing.

And besides, you are dodging the question. The fact is that, if you are not suicidal, you ARE happy that you weren't aborted and that you have the opportunity to live. However, think of all the joy in your life; you would NOT have that if you were aborted. No wife, no friends, no money, no amusement parks, no movies, no vacations, no swimming...nothing. You would just be a nonentity, which you acknowledge. But don't you think living is better than to never have lived?

It's just like the people who say that brain-dead Florida woman seems to be enjoying herself judging by her facial expression, and therefore should be kept "alive" artificially. Based on appearance, you're ascribing a sense of subjective awareness to something that never developed into consciousness.

As I said before, I can't say for sure because I've never "not lived". Who knows, maybe to not be born is to exist eternally in heaven - and it's infinitely better there than life here on earth. But the one thing I'm fairly sure of is that aborted fetuses don't ever have thoughts, so they don't know the difference one way or another.
