FYI: The fetus is under general anesethic when injected with 'poison'. There is no pain involved.
You are sure to argue that it doesn't make a difference, but I felt I should say this as I thought you may be under the impression that the fetus is aware of what is happening to it.

If you killed a baby it wouldn't be aware of what was happening to it.

It would be aware that something is happening to it. I'm assuming the baby in question is a wide awake newborn?

If you just injected it with some sort of poision? It would be no more aware than a baby fully developed in the womb.

It wouldn't remember either. How far back do your first memories go? Certainly not back to birth?

My first memory that I remember clearly was when I about two or three. I can very vaugely remember my first birthday, although not enough to count it as a clear memory.

Mine go back to this random day in preschool, it's really weird because I remember this one specific day really well for no particular reason, to stop digressing, my point would be that we aren't arguabley aware, and definatley not more aware a week before birth than a week after.

Awareness is a separate issue from independance, though. A newborn baby could possibly be more aware than they were as a fetus one week earlier, because that newborn can now see the world they are in, and hear better, too. They may be able to associate loud voices to anger, being held feels comforting, but they would be aware of someone handling them roughly, they could react to someone pulling a face at them, etc. For this reason, they would be a little more aware than a fetus a week earlier.
