Default Religious Conservatives are responsible for the high abortion rates in the UK

I actually differ with the Catholic church on this. I don't think birth control is an evil...certainly not in the context of a marriage. It helps circumvent a potential situation of an unwanted pregnancy. A man's sperm and a woman's egg are not independent forms of life. Preventing conception is not a Sin. How could it be?

This is of course in the context of a loving relationship at the least.

Its good your still about, my interest was sparked by the abortion figures, I would have thought we would have more in the UK than the US, simply looking at our more "Liberal views" on abortion.

Well I would never claim to have all the answers. However, the reasoning the Catholic Church has for calling contaception a sin is kida logical. If you accept their other tenants, that is. Since, in the church, sex is considered a gift from God for strengthening the bond between a married man and woman, and for procreation, contraceptives run contra (Oh I crack myself up) to what God gave us sex for. Luckily, I'm too young to have had to put this into practice, and so get to remain blissfully indecisive. So basically the church is saying that having sex but refusing to answer to his will for the creation of another human being, is a sin.

Now, I'm not the pope, but it would seem to me that its a whole lot less sinful to use contraceptives than to not use them and abort whatever is created in the process.

I would agree with you here. Using contraception to prevent pregnancy is much better than abortion.

I think the problem here is the CC itself. They seem to be taking over our hospitals now. One of our main hospitals in my area has been taken over by the Catholics, and is now a Catholic hospital. Before, it was not. I do not think religion should have any place in hospitals. I would not visit a hospital that was run by a bunch of religious nuts, nor would I ever stay in one. The people who run the place would be ignorant and prejuduced.
