Default U.S. Launches Attack on Suspected Al Qaeda Members in Somali

U.S. Launches Attack on Suspected Al Qaeda Members in Somalia
Monday, January 08, 2007

United States forces have launched a strike against suspected Al Qaeda members in Somalia, a senior U.S. official tells FOX News.

After the attack by the Air Force AC-130 gunship, capable of firing thousands of rounds per second, the official reported casualties on the ground, but is not sure if any are suspected terrorists.

The U.S.S. Eisenhower aircraft carrier is also in the region, within striking distance and loaded with firepower, and could be called into action if necessary.
A lil ..well months.. late but

(I wouldn't be shocked to learn that the US has been using airpower/etc to some degree in support of Ethiopian forces since the start)

Sounds like it's time for george to dust of the old Flight suit again. Prespeech proaganda to bolster his ineptitude.

If you notice this story is about supposed Al Quaeda terrorist that the military has already identified. If it is factual, then yes these are the operations that we should have been conducting all along. This story does not involve killing or being killed by Iraq's involved in sectarian civil war or about killing innocent civilians. But we haven't heard the whole story yet either. And yes it is prespeech PROPAGANDA
I am not saying that this operation if true is a bad thing at all. Sock it to EM.

Default Actually, Golden Dog..

They were acting on intelligence provided by the Ethiopian forces. And I think the strike is a GOOD THING.

Really, its not good to be so "cynical" of this admin "all the time". This decision was made swiftly and I think it was a good thing..similar to the strike Clinton made in 98.

Sorry don't mean to sound Cynical, I'm used to the various bits of intellegence reported just before certain events like Bush's big upcoming speech many time turns out to be either half true of not true at all.
Maybe this all will be true in that case I say good job. It's about time that we fight the Enemy America should be fighting.

Default Not really that bad.

While I have no way to substantiate my opinion, I'm sure that we have been effectively fighting against al Qaeda all along through subversive operations that we, understandably, don't get to hear about. I mean things like disruptions to their communications, logistics, and finances, which Osama bin Laden, et al, are powerless to do anything about. Even so, I'm glad to see that something visible is being done, and if it was a successful mission I would say they deserve a "Well done."

It just said on CNN that it can't be confirmed whether the suspects are among the dead. How convenient. With the history of this administration it could have very well been a friendly fire incident.

I just checked the BBC web page (there's a commercial on), and there's no mention of that story. This is quite interesting...
But AP does have it.

LOL could hold back your cynicism for a whole 40 minutes eh? Good Job!

This is definitely a good move for the Bush admin. There are Islamic militant movements in many other areas of the world other than Iraq; it’s about time we’ve taken action to help the peaceful governments who want to rid of the issue. If our boys are still going to be burdened by Forest Ranger Rules of Engagement, aerial campaigns and tactical strikes are the only ways the job can get done.

So you’re hoping we hit the Somali citizens to help the Islamic movements? If we did...you’re right! Would be exactly what Clinton did.

That is about the same amount of time the cons have given the Democrats to correct 5 years of Republcan screwups, a tad unreasonable don't you think?
