Wow, poor countries have more problems with disease than rich countries. Who would have thunk it?

Next you'll be telling me they have more problems with malaria, infant mortality and life expectancy. I'm shocked.

Wow, they don't - check out the third world countries with BETTER rankings than than the US. And a lot of africa, with natural resources like gold, diamonds, and oil isn't poor - it's just that the wealth goes to the grand poobah with the most guns.

Having lots of natural resources is not the same thing as being wealthy. Russia manages to be poor despite having more natural resources than any five other countries.

Africa is plagued by many, many troubles -- no argument on that. But you seem to be trying to imply that it's the continent's fault, and not the fault of all sorts of other factors -- the people involved, tribalism vs. nationalism, vestiges of colonialism and the Cold War, climate issues, and the simple fact that a country rich in natural resources, with a weak central government, is almost inevitably going to spawn competing armed gangs fighting over control of those resources.

Who do you blame for the kleptocrats in Africa -- Mugabe, Seku, etc.? Who do you blame for the civil wars in Congo and Liberia? Who do you blame for Somalia?

"Africa sucks" is not only simplistic, it's pointless. It achieves nothing.
