Thread: Still getting frequent 'database error'...

  1. Default Still getting frequent 'database error'...

This is the only forum from a dozen or so I regularly frequent which constantly shows errors, hang-ups, needs re-booting, slows to a crawl for no apparent reason. How many months has it been since the 'new, improved' version has been being 'fixed'? It really isn't good enough. If other forums function perfectly what's the problem here? Ironically the old forum works perfectly!

Do you notice these problems early in the morning?
Just asking, because yesterday, I signed on earlier than usual, and was surprised by the problems, which then subsided soon after.

Have you ever considered taking up the writing of Limericks ?

Maybe it only works when there's a full moon. Are you full, Moon?

There once was a database error
    It threw Snakeystretch into terror
    The full Moon came out
    PF gave a shout
Resolved it and all became...merrier? ;p

    Well what rhymes with terror...

Not necessarily; it's now 11.30am GMT and I just got a 'database error' message, followed by 'server too busy', followed by 'do you want to navigate away from this page?', followed by yet another 'database error', got fed up, went and made a cup of tea and visited a properly functioning forum!

Yea! Something snake.s. and I dont have to be hostile about and even agree on. I give this feedback as do the other members not to be malicious but to hopefully fix this server which is still broken. It is better than a few months ago but all the things snake said is correct. When that first started I got a notice when I tried to post a message that said are you sure you want to leave page. It looked like a firefox security message which can be ignored, but if I pushed yes navigate to another page I lost everything! After a week I began getting a data base error which was another way of saying; QUICK COPY AND SAVE!!! because if I tried anything else I again lost the entire reply or thread I was trying to post. I knew a friend that had a site just like this one, it too had speed and lock up problems, he paid quite a bit for that site. After a year of attempts to fix it he gave up and went to another server. I would like to say thanks to all the mods and the staff that is working on the problem, I know its worse for you guys. God bless you and hang in there, this is still my favorite site even if it is not my default go to site as before.

ps a hint that everyone probably already knows. If you have lost data as I have you might want to try copy and saving at the first hint of the site hanging after trying to post a reply or thread. Its the only way I have found to save the stuff, going back or forward or trying to retrieve from history etc does not work because the page/document expires.

We have an issue with slow down early in the morning. Seems smooth after.
As for the auto saved/quick option...
most fora in this format have the same issue when leaving a page. The best way (I found) to avoid it is to 'Go Advanced', and before leaving the page, click 'preview' to avoid loss of post content. Works every time.
Quick reply is just that, and I assume its not meant to be used when composing a lengthy reply with the addition of links etc.
Its a matter of getting used to which function works best for whatever application.
