DNSChanger: Check Your Computer Or Your ISP May Kick You Off the Internet July 9th

Short story: There is a virus that has infected a bunch of computers. It changes the DNS to one that hackers controlled. DNS (Domain Name Service) is a hierarchical service that your computer uses to access online resources using easily identifiable names. For instance, when you type www.google.com into your browser's URL field, www.google.com is resolved to the internet address of the server (actually, in the case of google and most other high volume website, it is a pool of servers) that is hosting the Google homepage.




These infected computers are using compromised DNS servers that will be switched off on July 9th. If your computer is infected, it will not be able to access the internet once these servers have been switched off.

Thanks for the heads up, always good to know about these sorts of things. I got the green as well and just to be sure, visited the FBI's page (link displayed on the site you linked to) and used another of the suggested DNS checker sites. Having that kind of a malware infection on your system would not be good. Thanks again.
