Default crackdown in Myanmar

http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/asiapc...mar.crackdown/

Protesting monks have apparently been shot.

Bushie has issued new sanctions against the government.

The freely-elected opposition leader is still under arrest.

Neo-Cons: should we go in?

YANGON, Myanmar (CNN) -- United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is to send a special envoy to Myanmar amid reports of several deaths in clashes between security forces and thousands of protesters led by Buddhist monks.
In other words, they're sending a couple gomers out there.

UN: Play nice, you Burmese!
Burma: Or else what?
UN: Or we'll draw up some weak, unenforceable resolutions against you!
Burma: ...And if we don't comply?
UN: Uh...uh...we'll send another envoy!
(translate: "Or else, we'll have to ask the USA to get involved!")

Default ...

US sanctions are a hollow threat. Our government should have worked something out with China and India. Their sanctions would hurt.
We should try to pressure China and India into sanctions on Burma now.

Its not our problem.
The terrain there is horrible.
We can't do anything about it.
The culture is too foreign.
They have no true concept of Democracy.
If they can't solve their own problems then too bad.

Oh and of course they are "worthless"

Default Burma.

In Burma, you cannot move from village to village without army permission. In Burma, you cannot send your kid to school without army permission, you cannot get married without army permission, people disappear all the time. If they find you in the bushes without permission, they don't bother to shoot you, they bring you somewhere and torture you for years. Labour camps are routine.

Saddam's Iraq was a great place to live compared to Burma.

If anyone in the world wants the US to invade them, its Burma. Anyone who frees this place would be welcomed with open arms. They have no freedom. Thanks to the brave monks leading the protests, they are getting finally some attention.
