China says it plans to increase military spending by nearly 18% this year, to 417.8bn yuan ($59bn; £30bn).
The figure was revealed ahead of China's annual parliamentary session, which begins on Wednesday.

Just before the announcement, the US released a report criticising China's military spending, and voicing concern over advances in space and cyberspace.

China rejected the Pentagon report as a "serious distortion of facts" that could harm its relations with the US.

Why should US be concerned over China's military spending? The US of A spend more money on military than the Roman empire in the days of their greatest expansion (commensurately).

But USA should not be concerned over any country's military spending, unless that country is an open threat to world peace. Which is to be proved, of course. And not by CIA's false reports, as in Iraq.

Lip service. The US complains about it to put pressure on China....and to deflect criticism when we increase our own spending. Even we dont really believe that "voicing our concerns" will stop China from spending. It is all for diplomatic leverage.

Personally I don't see the point in such games, but its not up to me.



I would love to see relations with Commie China "harmed". If it were up to me we'd already have severed ties with them.



Actually the Country belongs to the Chinese People. Right now they don't get a say in how their money is spent. The CCP is stealing it from them and spending it for them.

The CCP does not = the Chinese People.



Why would I want them stopped? I hope they increase it even more.
