Default Motion Backs Same Sex Marriage In Tasmania

The state won't allow gay couples to be married there, but it will recognise marriages performed elsewhere. A good start!

A HISTORIC motion backing same-sex marriage has been passed by the Tasmanian House of Assembly.

It is the first time an Australian parliament has voted in favor of marriage equality for gay and lesbian couples.

The Greens motion also called on the Federal Government to change the Marriage Act.

Debate on the motion was watched by local and interstate same-sex marriage activists in the public gallery and by a large national audience on the parliament's internet broadcast, The Mercury reported.

Now how about we just make it legal across the country?

This will be interesting indeed Makedde, as apparently Gillard is against
it, but its one of Browns policies....we may see who is running the country...strap yourselves in people.............

I dont care so long as they dont use it as a platform to claim religious institutions who do not provide that service are somehow breaking discrimination laws. I feel sorry for the kids of 2 men though having a masculine mother figure.

The religious brigade are out in force already, as expected! Insisting that 'some traditional values must be retained' already they can't offer an answer as to why.

When you see how many kids have to grow up in foster homes or other institusions because their traditionel family failed, it is more than hard to believe that 2 mothers or 2 fathers can get it that wrong.
What I personally know about same sex realtion people is that they are often well educated and caring. A good start for a family, isn't it?

I think youre generalising a bit arent you. I've known kids from welltodo
families that grow up bad...the parents say "what did I do wrong"
I know kids that have grown up with one parent since primary school (mine)
and have grown up well adjusted adults...yet other kids from one parent families are labelled as coming from a disjointed background..and the comment is..
"oh well what do you expect with only one parent....
All I know is that as a parent, you hope that youre doing the right thing
by your kids, and you hope that they grow up good.
If they have two mothers or two fathers...doesnt that just make a little
bit harder..............for the kids that is....

Dont get me wrong...I have nothing against same sex relationships...good
luck to anyone in any relationship....I just worry about the kids....isnt
it a bit of a gamble to legislate in this way...............it is isnt it....??
