Has it occured to you to wonder how many of these people have actually indulged in these practices? How many bring with them to the country that your children, and theirs will live in, a culture and mindset that lend themselves toward this type of behaviour? Our primary responsibility to conserve and improve our own country takes precedant over a self satisfying feel good.

Actually I think you have a point, the problem is that our UN obligations require us to give asylum to those deemed as genuine refugees, this isnt going to change under any government. From memory I believe that Australia doesnt even take in its quota, I would like to see us take in as many refugees as possible but of our own choosing. i.e. An appropriate cultural mix rather than from one particular ethnicity. The current immigration policy seems to be heavily focused on the middle east, I think we are setting ourselves up for trouble.

We have no way of effectively checking the history of a lot of these people. We need to drop the UN convention agreement in the bin where it belongs.

Depends what context you'd use it doesnt it?? Remember the geese calling themselves ducks are still geese even though the government process is being abused specifically so they can be called ducks - despite really being geese.

Never going to happen under any government, that argument is dead.
