    Default Rudd Quits

    ... as Foreign Minister.

"KEVIN Rudd has resigned as foreign minister following days of intense speculation surrounding the Labor leadership. Mr Rudd called an extraordinary media conference in Washington DC just after 1am local time to declare he could no longer continue in the position without the Prime Minister's support."

Off to the back bench to plan his next move?

Sweary Kev is really calling the shots.

He is Lazarus with a triple by-pass

He is still in the US isnt he! I'd assume he is there for a reason. Typical, putting himself before his job. I bet we'll have to pay for his accomodation and return airfare from where he's at even though he is no longer there as a foreign minister.

He quit because he's going to challenge. He has to - he is all the Labor Party has if they want to win the next election.

I do agree with that statement but I don't think he has the numbers.

I can't see how he wins the spill.

If he doesn't have the numbers now, he will in the future, once the party realises they won't win the election with Julia.

He sure is. This was all perfectly orchestrated. He released the sweary youtube to get people talking - took off OS and let the sore fester - now he is all "I'm a team player" and will return to the city riding a donkey while the devoted wave palms.

Wouldn't that be a nice touch if he anticipated such comments and came out and said he would pay for his return trip himself out of the goodness of his heart!

Kev has gone up in my esteem. So good to see a plan being so well executed.

    Exactly.

And Kev will be sitting up there waiting, watching ...

    Never underestimate a frightened back-bencher.

...and Julie Bishop's comment on QA the other night about Kev sounding out Billy Shorten as new Treasurer. Maybe just me - but I don't think Billy was that convincing in denying that.
