Thread: Australia's Negative Political Climate

My elderly aunt who resides in Bonny Hills also personally met Okkeshott. She was the one who christened him “bum-fingers.” She attended one of his gathering and re-calls after speaking with him for a few minutes as being: “a sleazy, effeminate little man who she wouldn’t trust as far as she could sling him” - her exact words. After watching him pontificate for a few minutes on TV, she raised herself from the chair, broke some wind; switched off the telly, and made a cuppa. She knew this was always going to be about this self-serving little man, and never about the constituents in the Lyon electorate who voted for him.

Yes. “bum-fingers” had a personal grudge against the Nationals - Abbott, and he was never going to cast his vote for them, regardless of what they offered him, but he played it out like he was genuinely negotiating - that’s his “fake” character, and the type of sleazy little grub he really is.

To suggest he has received no personal reward from the troll for his vote is smack in the face of common sense, and anyone to suggest otherwise needs to go back to reading the ABC books.

I understand he is not even going to run in the 2013 election, because he knows he will get annihilated by even the dumbest National Party candidate they offer.

This situation has taught many people one thing: before voting for an Independent candidate, make sure you know who they are referencing or who they will preference before you vote for them: don’t know, don’t vote for them.

Not sure I agree with your analogy. "bum-fingers" is on a good salary, but he is still an incompetent dickhead, so why give him more money!!

Lol... You know that Abbott isn't in the Nationals..?
It's not uncommon for the Nationals to have a problem with the Liberal Party...
It's also not uncommon for rural regional voters to have a problem with the coalition or with National Party...

Yes Oakshot is a lot of buck for little bang.

Firstly I am not a fan of our political system, you tend to gather a lot of dead wood. You see perhaps if you pay more the quality of candidate may improve. Why would a professional work for 100k or so when they could earn 5 or 10 times that in the corporate world. Just saying.

    Peanuts and monkeys.

Amusing description! It is politics at work, but anyway, I still come back to the fact that Abbott played a huge part of windsors and oakshotts decisions. I think he invented sleaze. I believe Turnbull would have attracted their support. I wouldn't say effeminate is a good description unless you were talking about Pyne! Anyway, The coalition are a bunch of whinging, whining brats! Pyne and the bishops are total turn offs, and remind me of little annoying chihuahuas that don't know when to shut up. Their countenances fit as well. Hocking is a big baboon who doesn't know whether he is coming or going and reminds me of mickael gorbatrov(a president without a country). The coalition need some new blood!!

Our PM "earns" around the same amount PA as a chippie in the mines, while she`s in office, that is. We do pay pollies a fortune to retire though, there might be some sense in that after all, at least they do less damage then.

“Politics at work.” NO. Its an accurate description of two self-serving sleazy grubs who got paid to sell-out their constituents votes for personal gain. Anyone who doesn’t think this occurred is an idiot. As stated previously, neither one of these grubs should have offer the people votes to either major party for bribes and concessions like its something “cheap” to be sold for money - the peoples votes should never be held in such contempt, but they were by these two sleazy grubs.

Anyone with reasonable intelligence would understand that the prior “bad” history between the coalition/National party and “bum fingers” and “no-nuts” would never see them giving their preferences or vote to this party regardless of “who” was the leader or what was offered. I’m simply astonished to think you believe these pair of cretins would have actually serious contemplated giving the coalition/National party their vote “if” Turnbull or another person was the leader; when every other person who knows about the situation, understands their was never a snow-balls chance in hell.

When these two little grubs held the power of Government in their hands, it immediately became “all about them” and what was going to be in “their” best long term interests, and was never going to be about the constituents in their electorates who voted them in.

The people seem to have forgotten “why” they voted out the Howard Government in the first place, and “why” they are so eager to vote the same Government back in with “no” policies, besides them criticising the mistakes of the ALP Government.

It’s the “merry-go-round” of politics and the two political party system that the people are trapped in, and until such time as the people start demanding more competent politicians and more open transparent policies and politicians, and a better system, then nothing will happen besides going around, and around, and around, and around.

The people have the power to make/force changes if they are willing to come together, so no one can really put all the blame on politicians for their actions or trying to feather their own nests at our expense, when we are letting them do it.

I’m hoping that soon the people will wake and realise that the biggest financial drain on this country is the politicians themselves and the endless squandering of money on committees, bureaucrats and useless “toothless tiger” Government Departments like Fair Work Australia.

Gillard gets paid more than Obama... We pay our politicians well so that we don't end up with a parliament only millionaires can afford to be in...

    What did they gain personally?

Still do! Abbott offered more, but they acted ethically in their fortunate positions and went with less, despite your speculation.

Yep, all about them, if knowing there was going to be long term negative consequences for themselves.....that just contradicts all that you have been saying!

Abbott and his colluding buddies in the media are why! People are slowly but surely working things out, and even more so once they realise that the sky hasn't fallen in after July 1.

Too cynical mate. Is the glass always half empty with you?

There is no perfect system, so get over it and move on. You can't have your cake and eat. Democracy is what it is and what it has been since the system was introduced!

Ditto to everything else I've said.
