The average national electricity price is predicted to jump by 37% by 2013/2014, announced in the latest report by the Australia Energy Market Commission (AEMC).Queensland electricity prices are expected to skyrocket by 42%, which will lift the Tariff 11 rate from $0.236 per kWh (inc GST) to $0.33 per kWh (inc GST). This price increase is set to trigger extensive controversy, because Australia has one of highest electricity prices in the world, and this is prior to the Carbon Tax being...
Local councils will be hit the hardest by the news that landfill sites will be up for a $200 million carbon tax bill, Shadow Minister for Local Government, Barnaby Joyce said today.

WHILE Mayor Tom Tate yesterday assured Gold Coasters rates would not be jacked up to pay the council's carbon tax costs, his colleagues were formulating a plan B -- increasing a ratepayer levy to pay the tax.

“It is extremely difficult to quantify what effects the Carbon Price but what we do know for certain is that electricity prices are going to rise – we’re looking at a 17 per cent increase in the next financial year according to the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal.

“For council, even if power usage doesn’t change at all. That amounts to a $116,000 increase, which is about 1.6 per cent of all rates revenue.

“IPART on the other hand, allowed a 0.4 per cent rates increase or $30,000 in Gunnedah’s case, to account for the carbon price.

Wake up dude, who do you think you are fooling! I knew you would provide half truths and not the whole story.....lmao.....None of the articles mention the governments compensation package. Pleassssse, just another silly little ploy to back your sour and hollow arguments against Gillard, because of your belief she told a lie. Whoopy (*)(*)(*)(*) Doo!!!! Let's put the real cost out there: Just say a pensioner has a power bill of $250 per quarter , the extra cost would be $45.00 over that 3 month period PEOPLE, that's right FORTY FIVE dollars, which the government has well and truly compensated for. Let's calculate now: What is 42 x 4.........$168.00 per year. The government will be compensating single pensioners an extra $338.00 per year, that's leaves pensioners with an extra $170 per year. Garry, if you are going to provide links, provide ones that tell the full story not half stories.....You guys must think you can take us for fools like Abbott has done to you! The poor old pensioners wouldn't have to pay this if the big corporations absorbed this cost which is a massive 1-2% of their tiddly little $24 billion profits.

No they do not. I was not asked to provide evidence of both sides of the debate. But hey, seeing as how you think there is another side to the debate, provide it. Half truths? No real truths that conflict with your own.

No, I am over the lie. Now it is to the way Labor is intending to rake in the money to make people such as yourself happy.
If you wish to debate the lie then state that as being your intention. but if you wish to debate the carbon tax get on with it.

Please provide evidence of your claim that a pensioner will be better off by $170 a year. instead of your opinion.

But let us also look at council rates, gas bills, grocery bills, fuel prices and other living expenses. Or do you consider a pensioner is immune to those rising costs? Half truths? think you have taken the cake on that.

Oh yes you really do think they are immune. the thing you do not seem to understand is that this cost will never be absorbed or compensated for under this package as only 10% of the 50% compensation package is going to be used for the people. 40% is going to the exporters AND that is the carbon producing companies you do not like.

Who is trying to fool who here?

Yes, so it seems that your unsupported opinion is far greater source than several people who are charged with running the SYSTEM you proclaim as a good one...LOL how about something of substance? oh that is right, you have none.

You haven't looked into this indepthly have you Garry. Talk about blindly following!!

You need to do some hard work. The calculator will be handy............Once you work it all out, get back to me with your honest calculations. It's not rocket science. You just need to work out things for yourself rather than listen to rhetoric and mantras! I've provided the source that will provide you with the figures below!

At what stage have I alluded to the the cost being absorbed by the big polluters. Have you not read what I wrote. It is being facitious, but surely you can read between the lines.....Wow!!!! you can't be serious man! You guys are so superficial, seriously!!

That's a bit of a reach. Everyone knows that our high Australian dollar is the axe over tourisms head. The carbon tax won't help, but can't be blamed for the downturn.

Was chatting with a family member last night who works in Canberra. Works in the right place if you know what I mean. She was saying that the word is that the Libs are getting a little nervous with abbotts leadership. Watch this space.

She is Labor aligned however. Lol.

Perhaps this is why the government has slipped into campaign mode. Hmmm!

So I am to work both sides of the debate? oh that is right your rhetoric is enough for the world isn't it. Perhaps you could provide the evidence of your claim that a pensioner will be $170 better off? but no, all we get is your rhetoric telling me to do your work for you. come on then tell me, How many self funded retired people qualify for a seniors health benefits card? Answer that one.

LOL...so that is your supportive evidence? I was thinking you where actually going to provide something of substance.

apparently, we demand evidence from you and you can not provide anything but your own rhetoric.
Oh and this provides both sides of the story as well doesn't it.
