Prime Minister Julia Gillard has urged world leaders to follow Australia's lead as they grapple with the impact of the global economic downturn.

Ms Gillard's comments came in a speech to business leaders on the eve of the G20 summit in Los Cabos, Mexico, this morning.

The two-day G20 meeting is expected to be dominated by talks surrounding the eurozone debt crisis.

In the speech to the B20 business group, Ms Gillard said she believed other countries could learn from Australia's economic record.

"In a world where it is easy to be downbeat, we must also be able to point to our successes and understand our strengths," she said.

"And today I want to say to you that Australia also takes considerable pride in our own economic achievements.

"Our record of growth and job creation gives me confidence: because I have seen our own determination and decisiveness rewarded in Australia, I'm confident that determined and decisive leadership around the world will be rewarded too.

"And I hope that Australia’s strong economy can be a sign of confidence to other countries.

"We know there is a path of openness, investment and reform which leads to jobs and fiscally sustainable growth for the long term.

"We know that because it is the path we have followed.

"And while we acknowledge that every country faces its own unique circumstances, we do believe that there are some lessons for the world in the Australian way."

Speaking earlier after arriving in Mexico, Ms Gillard stressed that the result of Sunday's Greek election - which has seen the pro-eurozone New Democracy party declare victory - would affect Australia.

"What happens in Europe does matter to the economy of the world," she said.

"Europe is the single biggest economic zone in the world so Australia does have a deep interest in what happens in Europe."

Other leaders, including German chancellor Angela Merkel, have delayed their trips to the summit to assess the results of the Greek election.

Treasurer Wayne Swan said he hoped Greece quickly formed a government to deal with the economic crisis.

"The parties that are likely to form the Government have restated their commitment to stay within the euro and that is of course a good outcome," he said.

"There are many challenges in Europe. We certainly need a boost to growth, we also need longer term fiscal consolidation, and we also need action across Europe to restore the banking system.

"There will be fallout from these events, but I think Australians can be assured that we are in the strongest position of any developed economy to cope with any fallout from these events in Europe."

Shadow treasurer Joe Hockey accused Ms Gillard and Mr Swan of "the height of arrogance" for "lecturing the world on fiscal rectitude and Government competence."

"Australia is in the position it is in thanks to the financial stability and reserves Labor inherited from the Howard Government as well as the mining boom the Government wants to cripple," he said.

The G20 brings together the leaders of the 20 big industrial economies, including eurozone heavyweights Germany, France and Italy.

Is this woman really so simple minded as to not see what a fool she is making of herself, and us? Revin Rudd was equally naive and egotistical. Julia Gillard makes Pauline Hanson look like a polished stateswoman.

It`s hard to say which one has embarrassed us the most, Kevin Rudd did the same kind of thing, mouthing off like a village idiot for all the world to see.

    ========================
Federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has sided with European Union leaders who say they should not be lectured by others on how they handle their economic crisis.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has said European leaders need to take decisive action by strengthening and recapitalising of their banks, introducing greater fiscal and banking integration, and getting economic back on track.

Mr Abbott says a government that has delivered the four biggest deficits in Australian history hardly has the credentials to lecture the G20.

"The prime minister would be better advised to actually deliver a surplus as opposed merely to forecast one before she start giving lectures to other countries on economic and fiscal rectitude," he told the Committee for Economic Development of Australia conference in Canberra on Tuesday.

European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso vehemently told reporters at the G20 summit in Los Cabos, Mexico, that while the union was extremely open and engaging with its G20 partners they were not there to receive lessons from anybody.

"The challenges are not all European. They are global," he said, pointing out that the international economic problems started with a financial crisis in the United States four years ago.

European Union president Herman Van Rompuy agreed, noting that other countries had "huge external imbalances" to correct.

"This crisis in the eurozone will take time to solve, there are no quick fixes, no silver bullets, but we will do all it takes to see it through," he said.

She has certainly stirred up the Europeans. If you believe the media that is.

All said and done our economy is in far better shape than theirs. Sometimes the truth hurts, however arrogantly delivered it is. She probably didn't need to highlight it on the world stage however.

I think she is a TRUE example of how Australias politicians truly believe we are one of the worlds powerbrokers. It started with Howards lapdog impersonation with Bush and it continues now. I have a real problem with people telling other people to clean up their backyards when theirs is far from clean.

The truth of our fiscal situation is simply a "good luck story", our economy is largely, a quarry economy. Our situation can`t really be compared with that of any other Nation on earth. To lecture other countries on fiscal magagement in these times, is the height of pigishness, and a huge embarrassment.

The troll queen is piggish little girl still playing “dress-ups” in the world of adults.

Now some people will start to believe me; when I say how Australians are being internationally laughed at behind their backs.

Its got to the stage now that the International community is starting to take “offence” at Australia’s stupidity in pretending they have a place on the international stage.

This maggots incompetence and stupidity is simply staggering to address the EU, and lecture on positive fiscal management, when she is borrowing $100million per day.

We all know some European cultures can hold grudges for decades if not centuries, so we might never completely understand how much damage has been done by this stupid maggot and her pompous piggish behaviour.

I personally believe its got to the stage where we can no longer wait for the 2013 election to rid ourselves of this troll; she is an insult & embarrassment to this country, and needs to be chucked back into gutter ASAP before she alienates us from the whole world.

Even Obama kept his distance from her this time!!

I very much doubt that she has realised what damage she has done.
