I would like to see what eventuates from this meeting, as it seems to have been called in an
immediate response to the bashing of the young boy recently killed in Kings Cross. I think that such
meetings called so quickly, illustrate the public concern over the problem. I hope that the meeting
is well attended by Sydney-siders. My feeling is that prevention is better than cure, and that alcoholism
and its associated problems should be introduced into all school curriculums.
There's probably no point in reducing trading hours, as this would probably constitute restraint of trade, unless
it was state wide, which would necessitate an amendment to the trading hours through the Liquor Act.

Go back to the days when pubs and clubs opened their doors at 10:00AM shut their doors at 10:00 PM. Then people might be able to start walking the streets again without being in fear of being robbed, bashed or murdered just for the fun of it.

It might also help get young people back into their family homes where they belong, and not roaming the streets until daylight.

If you cannot get drunk in 12 hours, then you may as well give up!!

I hope something good comes out of this, and not just Kings Cross...

Just have cops at each corner/block, so if anything happens they lock down the block instantly until the perp is apprehended. Shaping drinking hours will do nothing as people will drink at home and go for a walk and drugs last hours. That and more CCTV's should both be a visible and effective system to stop ppl or at least catch them immediately.

Sydney doesn't have a Lord Mayor. Sydney has over 30 mayors.

I would hope your right, But I do not think that, that there will be any detering effect from this, as younger people always consider it wont happen to them.

A review of licencing, seems to me, a political stunt, which most likely will not change anything. Forgive my cynicism, But I would have thought, that an entire licencing examination would be called for throughout the country, as it turns out that Kings Cross is not the only problem area.

Yep, I think Im p1ssing in the wind...young people do as they please as they have no boundaries which are normally created by discipine at school, in the home and respect for other people as well as themselves...the breakdown of the family unit probably begins it all.....but thats another story.......

I think it is natural for parents to want better for their children than what they had. So as generations have progressed we have inadvertently destroyed the very fabric that was the blueprint to a successful society......family unity. We have to work harder and longer these days just to pay for everyday expenses and have a little left over for the kids. What has happened during this process is we have relied more on material possession to impress, rather than time spent with loved ones.

I worked for a very wealthy man when I was younger and just starting my journey. Fate was kind. He had more money than he knew what to do with. His wife had died , but his children were still around, but they weren't close. Toward the end he was bed ridden, and his son had taken over. I had to take some papers over to him to review and we sat and talked for a while. It was a fairly light conversation until I said I was going to visit my dad and take him to a reunion he was going to. The tears welled up in his eyes and he looked at me and said ' never let money or work come between you and your family. Because lad, in the end when you die all you will have in the after life is your memories. You will always. Have regrets, because a man who tells you he has lived without regret is a man with no conscience or a liar. But whatever you do, do not take regret about family with you because it will eat you up forever, and you are a long time dead'. I have never forgotten that and whenever I have spare time I spend it with my family. At Christmas we have to make each other gifts not buy them. This way it takes effort and thought and actually means something.

Some people I talk to and tell them this are horrified at the thought. I pity them, because they are confused, and couldn't possibly be at peace with themselves. Unfortunately I can't see it ever improving.

Everyone knows what Australians are. They are per capita, the highest gambles and consumers of alcohol in the entire world. The majority live their lives surrounded by sport, and consuming alcohol at every opportunity, and would bet on two flies crawling up a wall.

Any business in the restaurant or liquor trade who wants to make a buck, knows they have to sell massive quantities of alcohol to these fools, because that’s all they want.

Australia began its life in the “rum-trade” and nothing much has evolved since 1788 - they are still a bunch of drunken no-hopers with little to no interest in anything besides alcohol, sport and gambling.

Step into any pub or club in the country and watch these clowns snorting down schooner after schooner and empting their pockets into little machines with flashing lights and sounds. Then they venture home and pretend to be a positive role model to the family and children.

While every Australians continue to be nothing but a bunch of low-life drunken fools, then their will always be some entrepreneur ready to take advantage of their stupidity.

Why always blame the businesses? Why not start blaming the individuals irresponsibility for a change?
