Default Is it time to curtail the supply of alcohol

Man king hit in Kings Cross...now deceased...
Man king hit in Kingscliff...now deceased...

How many deaths will it take for someone to do something.
Deaths outside pubs, deaths on the roads, violence, punching, kicking,
groups of people brawling...it goes on every weekend...
Domestic violence in the home, child abuse, and health problems
    caused by alcohol...
Google it and you will find that liquor tax reaps billions of dollars throughout
Australia...coupled with gambling tax, the governments are awash with money,
    yet more taxes are introduced...
Isnt it about time something was done about the violence and the overall cost
    to the community of alcohol...
Ooh I forgot...the apprenticeship for drunks...schoolies week on the Gold Coast...

There are so many other aspects of society that take our attention, such as gay and
lesbian rights, politics, religion, terrorism, abortion and so on....but no-one gives a
stuff about the problems of alcohol.....

Sorry, I give credit to Wilkie for his attempted gambling rehab....

Come on politicians, forego a bit of liquor tax and curtail hours, or introduce
alcohol free zones, something, anything....start protecting the community from
the drunken drivers and the drunken brawlers and wife/child abusers....

With you here magoo! One of the culprits was Craig Field, a former NRL player. The money from these liquor taxes should have been used soley for the purpose of educating young people and battling this out of control acceptance of alcohol abuse that is destroying our young people.

I think its more than just grog. Its what else they mix with the crap. I played footy against Field many moons ago when we were both young and dumb and full of ......

Seems one of us grew up. He was always a hot head and mix this with low IQ, drugs and a lot of alcohol, and you unfortunately get the loss of a human life.

    Such a shame.

I don't drink but i see how much damage it can do on an everyday basis.

I don't know what the answer is here.

I was a footy head and a drinker,...not so long ago actually...I don't have a high IQ, but still had respect for human life during my splurges! I was caught up in the hype of alcohol abuse that seemed normal because everyone else did it! As a matter of fact, I still like a drink, but am more health concious these days.

This question is a hard one, although I don`t believe society should have to pay for damage that some do to themselves and others, through drug and alcohol abuse.

Booze is a silly drug. Legalize pot... I mean who punches anyone when stoned. Just need to vaporize it or something so everyone doesn't get lung cancer smoking the stuff.

You could probably say Craig has already been through the glorious green gates and onto whiter pastures

Sad also to see that this subject has attracted little attention and has been somewhat trivialised...

Lets just put it in the too hard basket.....

Kings Cross has been 24/7 drinking since I can remember. It has also been the centre for many questionable activities. Why now is Alcohol become an issue? The Australian culture has changed to such extent, that is obvious that many can not deal with the consumption of Alcohol. Shortening the trading hours will go well toward, helping to put things right.

But it must also be remembered, when I say this, that many incidents would have normally gone un-noticed in previous years. As time has passed it has become more acceptable to talk about the issues of domestic violence, alcoholism and other various issues related. This is not a bad thing, but it does blow out of proportion, the timing of such issues. What did our ancestors go through, without any support? Maybe licence premises need to go back to the 40's or 50's when they where only opened a few hours a day.
