Default Should Australia be a Republic?

Hey people! My name is Oi Kum and I am from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I am currently taking the South Australian Matriculation here is Malaysia. The tittle as above, Should Australia be a Republic?, is the topic for my legal studies project. My argument for it is "Australia should be a Republic". I would greatly appreciate your kindness if you would spare some of your time to leave your comments here regardless whether your argument is yes or no. Thank you very much!

Default Of course.

Just like Britain and all other countries that have held on to the past and kept an antiquated and worthless system of governance, Australia should get rid of the Monarchy. What use is an untrained aristocrat as Head of State?

The Monarchy is worthless, and has as much justification for remaining as John Prescott has for staying in office.

According to the majority of the Australian people, no it shouldn't. Debate over.

Default Republican Governments

If it is anything like the American Republican System Forget it!
The elections seem to take forever and cost lots of money. I may not be a monarchist but the election process are heaps better.

First, the 1999 referendum was skewd by John Howard in a way that goes against our preferential voting system. Instead of giving us sereval choices, he gave us monarchy vs an unpopular form of a republic(based off the american system, I'm not sure how exactly). This broke the republic vote in two, and was not a true expression of the democratic will. I'm not saying it necassarily would have passed, we simply don't know.

Secondly, it was nine years ago, so the debate is ongoing, not least because of all the new voters.

We should do so because its a truer expression of who we are, and an excellent opportunity to improve the system (though I imagine someone will actually try to use it to break things).

Yuh, nearly 10 years ago.

That's very true - we do have a good election system. That hopefully would not have to change but I'm definitely no expert in political science.

We need to get rid of the Queen. She is not Australian, has nothing to do with Australia, rarely visits Australia, and yet she is head of the country. We must become independant from the Brits.
