Default Republicans jumping ship over spending

Amazing. This has been going on for six years now, and no one's said a word. Finally we get around to election time, and now the cockroaches are scurrying for cover 'cause the light came on.

What say you? Too little too late, or is this meaningful?

seems that everyone but this administration and our neocon friends on this forum know there is a problem.

Too little too late? Well this is what politicians have been doing forever and the majority of voters fall for it every time. Yeah around election time it's amazing how they seem to be cured of insanity. The thing is they talk a game around election time and by the time the election comes around not a whole lot of good has been done and it's back to the same crap for them.

I'm just hoping the voters are mad enough this time to vote against both the Democrats and Republicans.

My predictions: the GOP will lose Congress to the Democrats in the coming years as voters become discontent with their stupid policies. The empowered Democrats will drive up spending past current levels. A new Newt Gingrich will offer a "Contract with America 2.0," promising to reduce spending and government bloat. Voters will like the idea and give a record number of Congressional seats to Republicans.

The GOP will then gradually increase spending and government mismanagement until the voters get sick of it and vote them out.

...

Repeat until we're all dead.

That pretty much hits the nail on the head. Once interest on the national debt becomes 50% of governmental spending or more you can call us Rome.

We already can. We have a military used to occupy lands in order to exploit their wealth. We torture inmates with lethal injections. We even allow foreigners to fight in our military with the chance that those lucky mercenaries might one day earn citizenship.

I'll call this assessment unfair because A) the Clinton administration exercised more fiscal restraint than recent Repub. administrations and B) because whoever is control of Congress or the Executive branch, they will now be saddled with a huge debt burden, mess in Iraq, high gas prices, inflation and an unfunded Medicare prescription drug benefit: A deep dark fiscal hole and no room to maneuver.
