Default New Budget Rough Draft

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...031301763.html

What I think the real evil in here is between the lines. Both Bush's budget and the Crat budget are based on projections including the expansion of the AMT.
Whatever people have to say about the estate tax, at least that one has a point.
The AMT is an evil tax that does nothing but screw the middle class (which is funny, considering that it was designed to get rich folks who avoid all taxes... The number of such people has increased since the AMT's inception)... and it looks as thoough regardless of which party we have in office, in the name of looking good, these politicians count the future budget on further expanding this vile tax (you know, the part GWB didn't tell you about that went with justifying his taxcuts).
Frankly I think we should expect nothing less than the removal of this sneaky tax forever. If the government needs more revenue, let them collect it in a straightforward manner or make cuts where appropriate.

So while I applaud the Crats briefly for the changes advocating pay-go... I'm sickened that they allow this evil tax into their future calculations.

The Republican response and the Democratic response to the Republican response... More of the same. Kettles calling each other black while they justify either tax hikes or deficit spending and threaten each other's pet projects.
I don't think there's any question about it that pay-go is the way to go. But something has to be done about that AMT. Not only should it halt expansion through 2009... It should go away altogether and be replaced by something straightforward or not at all...
But that's not likely to happen. More quickfixes for years to come.
