Yes, it shows an innate anti-intellectualism in those that can't be bothered with constructive macroeconomic comment
It is obvious how government debt is not fair to the taxpayer. It just creates special opportunities for wealthy people to have safe (guaranteed by the taxpayer) places to put their money while extorting huge compounding interest payments from the taxpayers (now the interest rates are low, but they will eventually go up, and the Treasury will not have any other option except to pay whatever interest rates it has to to keep servicing the debt).
If the government actually invested the money, it might justify the interest payments. But virtually none of this money is actually going to real investments. We hear all the time about how politicians are "investing" our money into uses to benefit society, yet the public does not question what the equivalent rate of return actually is from these "investments".
