Default tax fairness?

I don't know if your statistics are acurate: how exactly did you come to the conclusion that the least wealthy percentage of the population receive benefits of more than 50% of the tax revenues? The "well to do" elderly are eligible for medicare and while the standard rhetoric is that "everyone" benefits from defense spending, I don't think so. Our defense budget is only nominally spent on protecting the homeland. Generally, it has been used to protect corporate interests and distribute jobs programs to the states to keep Congress voting for all the useless military hardware. Medicaide is a sizeable chunk of the budget, but it is really a welfare program for retail businesses who do not pay their employees enough to buy insurance on their own...the whole discussion of "redistribution of wealth" ignores the fact that we have a structure that insures the fact that we will always have people too poor to buy health care, pay much in taxes, save for retirement. It is manmade structure, not a law of nature!

Default Same rights, same tax

Every citizen has the same amount of votes: one.

So why should not every citizen pay the same amount of tax? That would make things much more easy (you could abolish the IRS) and just. Same rights, same tax.

Do you mean the same percentage, or the same monetary amount?

The same amount, e.g. 500 $ a month.

The same percentage would mean that you pay more taxes when you earn more. I think this is unjust and undemocratic. The state should not have the slightest information about your income. This is a private thing.

Default ...

That would make the Fair Tax better than the flat tax. Then the government doesn't need to know how much you make at all. And people can avoid cumbersome taxation by consuming less.

So if a person earns $1000 per month, you would have them pay 50% of their salary in taxes and if Bill gates earned 20 Million per month you would have him pay .25% of his income in taxes.

Why has no one thought of this before?

Oh my god. He was talking about a literal flat rate, rather than a flat percentage rate. Yikes!

Default You've got it

That is absolutely correct. All other forms of taxation are simply unjust.
