Default The Presidential Election will be over one year from now

It appears that a ton of states are going to have their primaries moved up to Feb 5 or before. That will have huge implications on the election system in this country. Particularly for President. It means there will be no more Bill Clintons. No more Jimmy Carters. No more candidates to come out of nowhere and surprise anyone by playing a saxaphone on tv. Thoughts?

I don't know if it will hurt one party more than the other, despite history suggesting it would hurt the dems more. The downside is that whoever has the most money, but more importantly the most name recognition, will likely win. I don't think that's a good thing. If someone like Arnold was eligible to run we could win based on his popularity and not the issues. The potential for that makes me pause. Being President is a lot more than making movies and being a governor.

On the other hand, the primaries won't be dragging on like they have in the past.

I agree mostly.
The one positive thing I might see sliding out of this is increased media hype on the primaries... Perhaps more people will vote in the primaries...
But even then there just isn't enough time for the candidates to discuss issues. Just look at Obama. He's making waves in the primary without answering anything much about issues. He might be a real contender, but how are we to know when we're in too big a hurry to get names out there and not getting around to asking questions.

Exactly what waves is Obama making?
