Default Canada to strengthen Arctic claim

Quote:
Mr Harper said Canada has a "real, growing" Arctic presence
As the battle to back up claims over the resources of the Arctic Ocean heats up, Canada has said it will build two new military bases in its far north.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper made the announcement during a tour of Canada's northern territories.

It comes as a Danish mission prepares to sail to the North Pole to map the seabed under the ice.

Last week, a Russian expedition planted the country's flag on the floor of the Arctic Ocean under the North Pole.

'Use it or lose it'

Mr Harper said a cold-weather army training base would be set up at Resolute Bay and an existing port at a former mine at Nanisivik would be refurbished to supply Arctic patrol vessels.

He said the facilities would bolster Canada's claims to disputed portions of the Arctic.

"Canada's new government understands that the first principle of Arctic sovereignty is use it or lose it," Mr Harper said from Resolute, a small Inuit community about 600km (372 miles) south of the North Pole.

"Today's announcements tell the world that Canada has real, growing, long-term presence in the Arctic."

On Sunday, Denmark is sending a month-long expedition to the North Pole to study the same underwater ridge to see if it is connected to Greenland, a Danish territory.

The Danish team plans collect data to map the seabed under the ice.
Said what they where doing at the end.

Default Go away Russia.

Most of the arctic clearly should belong to Canada, just looking at a plain map. Russians need to stay on their own side of the North pole, and stop wondering into ours.

Good for Harper for finally sticking up to bullies like Russia who rob and rape the territory of sovereign countries for whatever resources are there. The Liberals did nothing for decades, and the result is Russia planting flags under Canadian waters. Hopefully Harper achieves a majority government in the next election, so we can ramp up military spending even more and sign useful treaties like the missile defense pact to further protect our sovereignty.

Good for Harper for building military bases and heavily armed ice-breakers to patrol this part of Canada's border. The North-west passage and the fossil fuels in the arctic will always be part of Canada, and I hope to god we fight for every last bit of whats ours.

The Danes are not a threat.

Default So...

Artica is not Canadian land, those claim territory calls Lamonosovs and its near to Russia, other part is near to Canada, but Russia dont want to claim territory across those part which is the other side of siberian platform under sea,so one day teacher in NZ school said,Canada is bigger then USSR,because Arctica is Canadian land,so he was canadian old fartman,so Russia dont want all Arctica, like it wants Canada,so Who occupate territory for recurses of suviren land?....You meant the land near Russia is Canada?,so but why there russian islands with artic bases? So its good that canada build something in artica, because Russians already teach north bears to speak in russian language,so but There everywhere russian planes ,like bombers or fighters which are the securety of those Artic part in 400 km from Siberia,So its indeed Siberian platform at Lamonosov place, because Artic Siberia is flate and land go under sea far to Artic,So Canada how we know have Mountains there,it means that Canada have no American platform in Artica....
So and NORTH-WEST OF ARTICA IS NOT TERRITORY OF CANADA LIKE OTHER PARTS,ALL COUNTRES THERE HAVE ARTIC BORDER AT PLATFORM END
MrHankey Xmass crap after those canadian ignorant post very evel indeed, its seldom in the house of MrHankey in South Park

We musn't let the Russians control the North Pole, because that means they control Santa Claus' factories...But there is no NAUGHTY AND NICE list in Russia, everyone is naughty. Distinguishing between the two would be classifying people...CLASS. There are two possibilities. Either they would only produce coal and then send Soviet Claus to give coal to everyone. Or they would simply retain everything of the factory and use it as somewhat of a...collective factory...The latter is more likely. We must supply Santa with arms and munitions.
